Thanks to Kathy from I am a Reader Not a Writer and Jen from I Read Banned Books for hosting this hop.
Banned Books Week (BBW) celebrates the freedom to read, highlights the benefit of free and open access to books/information, and draws our attention to the harm of censoring what people read.
We have a right to choose what we want to read and what not to read, what our children should or should not read. I hate it when people try to judge me because I don't allow my children to read certain books, or because I do. Judge lest be judged.
Below are some of the books I've read. Some of them I've watched as movies. Which movies based on the books below have you watched? What others movies based on other banned/challenged books not listed below have you watched?

Wait, A Wrinkle In Time was banned?! Are you KIDDING me?! OMFG that was SO my favorite book as a kid! D:
ReplyDeleteAnd more than that, there was a MOVIE?! LOL I'm totally going to have to check into that because frankly, I loved anything Madeline L'Engle wrote, even her more "adult" work (which was still tame by today's standards).
Let's see, I've seen the Twilight movies, the HP movies, Huck Finn, Death of a Salesman (wait, that was banned too??), One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and probably most of the rest of the list..
I swear, I'm flabbergasted at the list of banned books these days. Absolute insanity.
Following on GFC and FB :)
I've watched the DaVinci Code, Twilight, and will soon get to watch Hunger Games. Banned books are awesome and should get the love they deserve.
ReplyDeletejuliecookies(at)gmail.com
Well, I've seen Harry Potter of course. I don't understand banning books with magic. Kids with the capability to read that book should have already learned what "Fantasy" is.
ReplyDeleteThe HP movies are such huge money makers yet they're banned books
ReplyDeletemsboatgal at aol.com
I have seen the harry potter movies and twilight and the golden compass.
ReplyDeletethank you
chelle2006 @ aol.com
I am reading Water for Elephants and look forwad to watching the movie when I am done. I read The Hunger Games series and can't wait til next March to watch it. Golden Compass was excellent and Harry Potter is great as each come out. Thanks for this great giveaway.
ReplyDeleteyour1chef at aol dot com
A good list that I have read all of! How can the books be that bad if most of us have read them?!
ReplyDeletebooks4me67 at ymail.com
I've seen most of the movies made from that list. I've read just about all of them.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the contest.
I have seen so many of these and to think the books are banned is crazy! Although my family thinks I am crazy sometimes for being so open with my daughters! But I think you gotta be these days!
ReplyDeleteI've seen all the Harry Potter's, To Kill a Mockingbird, and I'll be seeing The Hunger Games as soon as it's out next year ;]

Hard to believe soo many clasics are now banned. Stuff that was required reading for me in the 80's now banned today. It seems very crazy. And Happy Potter, Wrinkle in time, come on now. I really would like to know who makes these lists.
ReplyDeleteblonde_mama_t@me.com
I've seen quite a few of the banned books as movies. I really love One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Sophie's Choice, The Godfather just to some examples :)
ReplyDeletebookloon at gmail dot com
One of the lasting comments I remember from library school was my professor's comment that someone has an issue with every book that is ever published. While one person may object to one book, someone else will object to another. As long as we have closed minded people (and we always will), this debate will rage on. I am glad that ALA has always had such a stand on this issue, and supported and fought banned books.
ReplyDeletei enjoyed the harry potter movies and the twilight movies but definitely preferred the books!
