Banned-Books-Week-Giveaway-Hop

Thanks to Kathy from I am a Reader Not a Writer and Jen from I Read Banned Books for hosting this hop.

Banned Books Week (BBW) celebrates the freedom to read, highlights the benefit of free and open access to books/information, and draws our attention to the harm of censoring what people read.

We have a right to choose what we want to read and what not to read, what our children should or should not read.  I hate it when people try to judge me because I don't allow my children to read certain books, or because I do. Judge lest be judged.

Below are some of the books I've read. Some of them I've watched as movies. Which movies based on the books below have you watched? What others movies based on other banned/challenged books not listed below have you watched?

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle
Blubber by Judy Blume
Carrie by Stephen King
Cujo by Stephen King
Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller
Forever by Judy Blume

  1. I had absolutely no idea that some of these books were banned! Several of them I had to read for school, (and loved), and others I read because I wanted to. This list just makes me sad.

  9. Wait, A Wrinkle In Time was banned?! Are you KIDDING me?! OMFG that was SO my favorite book as a kid! D:

And more than that, there was a MOVIE?! LOL I'm totally going to have to check into that because frankly, I loved anything Madeline L'Engle wrote, even her more "adult" work (which was still tame by today's standards).

Let's see, I've seen the Twilight movies, the HP movies, Huck Finn, Death of a Salesman (wait, that was banned too??), One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, and probably most of the rest of the list..

I swear, I'm flabbergasted at the list of banned books these days. Absolute insanity.

Following on GFC and FB :)

  10. I've watched the DaVinci Code, Twilight, and will soon get to watch Hunger Games. Banned books are awesome and should get the love they deserve.

  11. Well, I've seen Harry Potter of course. I don't understand banning books with magic. Kids with the capability to read that book should have already learned what "Fantasy" is.

  25. One of the lasting comments I remember from library school was my professor's comment that someone has an issue with every book that is ever published. While one person may object to one book, someone else will object to another. As long as we have closed minded people (and we always will), this debate will rage on. I am glad that ALA has always had such a stand on this issue, and supported and fought banned books.
